About us
Goroka Coffee Roasters is situated in the small town of Goroka in the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. This is a unique country full of culture and diversity with over 700 local dialects spoken by its people. Agriculture has always been a prominent role in the lives of most Papua New Guineans with coffee being the largest cash crop for its people.
Goroka is situated 5000 feet above sea level making it the ideal location for growing 100% Arabica coffee. Goroka Coffee Roasters was established in the 1960's. Our original roasting machine came from an old American warship. The Captain loved his coffee so much he roasted his own on board via a coal burning roaster, as he sailed the world's oceans.
We are involved with 8 small holder farm groups but are also heavily involved with thousands of villagebased farmers that produce their own coffee and take the arduous journey which sometimes can take weeks of crossing rivers and mountainous terrain until they reach a serviceable road to reach our buying shed in Kainantu.
We are avid supporters of local women and children's groups and assist where we can with our local hospitals with medical supplies and donations. We continue to support our workers and suppliers where we can with health, education and everyday necessities. With an established reputation as a roaster of quality coffee for over 50 years as one of the original coffee roasting companies in Papua New Guinea - Goroka Coffee Roasters can offer a 'The Taste of Paradise.'
All of our coffee is hand-picked when the cherry bean is ripe, showing a beautiful dark red colour. Processed in our own wet factories, and sun dried until the correct moisture level is reached and sent to our affiliated green bean processing factory where only the highest quality beans are selected and sent to us for roasting. The green bean is stored in our double jute green bean bags in raw form until orders are received.
